CLES Certified Laboratory Equipment Specialist Exam Study Guide


CLES or certified laboratory equipment specialist exam is conducted by ICC (International Certification Commission) & USCC (United States Certification Commission). This score is used by AAMI (Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation) to accredit the person as a certified laboratory equipment specialist. This exam is must for the candidate who wants to build up their career as biomedical equipment specialist. Laboratory equipment specialization is a branch of biomedical equipment specialty. There are two statuses for getting this certification that is candidature status and certification status. Both have different eligibility requirements and one status can be followed by other with the maximum difference of 5 years.

Eligibility for CLES Certified Laboratory Equipment Specialist Exam


To apply for the certification status applicant must have an associate degree in the field of laboratory technology with the combination of three years work experience or a bachelor degree in the same field along with two years of work experience as biomedical equipment technician. But the condition of having 40% of the total two year experience in the same area should be fulfilled be the applicant. Other than this to apply for candidate status applicant must possess associate degree either in biomedical technology or in electronics or in laboratory technology with one year of work experience (not necessary with biomedical degree). Candidate having a bachelor degree in lab technology can fulfill the criteria for the same. Applicant will get 5 years time to upgrade his/her status from candidate to certification.

Format of CLES Certified Laboratory Equipment Specialist Exam


This exam is basically conducted in objective manner. Candidate must be good and tough enough to face the exam confidently. He/she must be objectively defined and should have multi diverse knowledge of the profession and the equipments. This exam constitutes 150 objective type questions that are to be done in 240 minutes. This test focuses on the topics like technology in health sector, human physiology and anatomy, public security and environmental safety etc. These topics carry unequal weightage and should be prepared accordingly by the candidate. Applicant must have hard core knowledge of the techniques and technology being used in health sector recently.
