TherapistArt Therapy Exam Study Guide


The art therapist exam is offered by the Art Therapy Certification Board to all the art therapist who hold the ATR credentials. This examination is taken twice a year. The examination covers a wide range of areas in studies and practices for a profession in art therapy.

Eligibility for Art Therapy Exam


The applicants appearing for the examination must satisfy the following eligibilities:

  • The candidate must be current Registered Art Therapist (ATR) with the ATCB.
  • The candidate must be involved in the mental health field, which includes counselors, marriage and family therapists, social workers, psychologists, addictions counselors, psychiatric nurses, and psychiatrists.
  • The candidates must have direct hours in contact with patients, i.e. therapeutic sessions.

Format for Art Therapy Exam


Art Therapy exam is a multiple choice exam. Once the certification acquired lasts for five years. Following subject areas are covered in the art therapy exam
