Sonography Exam

The American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography or ARDMS is an American certification organization with more than 10,000 examined professionals. The goal of the organization is to offer unified standards to all future sonographers, constant learning to all certified personnel, and puts patient care in the first place. The ARDMS operates in the USA, Canada, and around the world, this is why Sonography certifications done by the ARDMS are in line with international medical standards. The Registry offers not just the basic sonography exam but also a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer, Registered Vascular Technologist, and Registered Musculoskeletal Sonographer exams.

The Sonography Exam is a credential test, which every professional needs to pass in order to apply to the RDMS, RDCS, RVT, and RMSKS credential exams. The goal of this test is to examine the knowledge, education, and skills of the professional in question, through the fields of clinical safety, physical principles, pulsed echo instrumentation, and quality assurance. The test meets the standards of the other ARDMS tests and is the first examination a new professional in the field of sonography needs to take, in order to be an internationally certified sonographer.

Other ARDMS exams

After meeting the requirements of the SPI ( Sonography Principles & Instrumentation ) test, a professional can apply for further certification in these fields and exams:

    Eligibility for Sonography Exam

Any student, graduate, or sonography professional can apply to take the SPI or basic test offered by the ARDMS. After that, in the time period of five years, one is eligible to apply to any other ARDMS examination. All MD or DO professionals, practicing in America or Canada, with an unrestricted license, are eligible to apply for taking this exam. If the physician does not have this educational background, they must provide credentials or evaluation that prove the medical degree knowledge of MD or DO.

Every professional planning on applying for this certificate has to meet certain requirements, which vary from test to test and from specialty to specialty. The ARDMS recommends choosing an exam that best meets oneĀ“s professional experience. The documentation and requisites depend on the chosen examination, medical specialty, and experience.
