EXPLORE ACT's college readiness test for 8th and 9th graders
EXPLORE test is an American College Test (ACT) for grades 8 and 9 that helps in determining their college readiness. Primarily, the test aims at providing information on student’s skills, knowledge, plans, and interests. This crucial information is useful for students in planning their high school coursework as well as begin envisioning and planning about their college and careers in the coming years.

Syllabus for the Explore ACT Exam
The test covers English, Reading, Math, and Science: -
- English: EXPLORE test in English measures one’s comprehension of standard written English which includes grammar and usage, punctuation, and sentence structure. It also measures styles in writing, organization, and strategy.
- Reading: Measures student’s skills in understanding written materials from a variety of school subjects. Students refer to passages, derive conclusions, and make comparisons and generalizations. The test questions here are derived from the passages provided.
- Math: This measures student’s mathematical reasoning skills. Instead of majoring in memorized formulas, it tests the student’s ability to reason mathematically. Generally, it tests on knowledge and skills, direct application, comprehending concepts, and integrating an understanding of concepts. Pre-algebra, geometry, elementary algebra, statistics, and probability are the branches covered.
- Science: Measures student’s scientific reasoning skills and their ability to draw scientific conclusions of information provided. With scientific information presented in three formats, i.e data representation (which involves tables, graphs, and other forms), summaries on research (entails a description of experiments), and conflicting conclusions (more than one hypotheses that do not agree), the student is expected to showcase scientific analysis, understanding, and guided conclusions.
Format for the Explore ACT Exam
The test contains four multiple-choice tests; English, Reading, Math, and Science.
- English section has 40 questions and takes 30 minutes
- The Reading section has 30 questions and takes 30 minutes
- Math section has 30 questions and takes 30 minutes
- Science section has 28 questions and takes 30 minutes
