Postsecondary Education Readiness Test


PERT Test is an entry-level placement exam for colleges in the state of Florida used by both universities and colleges to help identify the level of college courses in English and Mathematics an applying student is adequately prepared for.

Students seeking to join colleges who perform well on PERT tests are admitted into any regular Math and English classes as soon as they join whereas, in cases where they do not perform well, they are required to begin with basic or remedial classes. As observed, there is technically no failing in the Test but as indicated, the result impacts the courses one takes in colleges.

Eligibility for PERT Exam

All incoming degree-seeking students who are past secondary school and willing to enroll in a college course.

Exemptions

A college degree from the U.S regionally accredited college or university with English as the language of instruction.

Official PERT, CPT, ACT, and or SAT scores that are less than two years old at the time of enrolment.

These exemption rules may vary from one college to the other depending on their policies.

Syllabus for PERT Exam

The PERT test covers Math and English with the math section comprising of regular math questions and the English section focusing on Reading and Writing. For many colleges, there is a PERT Test preparation course that helps students familiarize themselves with the test and adequately prepare to take it.

Format for PERT Exam

PERT Test covers:-

  • Mathematics
  • Reading
  • Writing

Each of these parts does not have a time limit but in most cases averagely takes about 45 minutes, and have 30 questions. There are 5 experimental questions per section that do not count to the score, however, students will not know which of the questions are experimental. Each section has a score range of 50 to 150, with a required score of over 100 to be allowed to skip lower-level classes. For the Math section, the lowest acceptable score of 114 is required in order to skip basic and remedial classes. The Writing section requires a score of 103 and 106 on Reading as a prequalification requirement of joining freshman-level English classes.
