Preparing For High School Exams

High school exam is a requirement for high school graduation in the United States of America to improve the academic performance of high school students, and especially of high school graduates, in the areas of reading, writing, and mathematics; public school students must pass the exam before they can receive a high school diploma, regardless of any other graduation requirements

Here is a brief review of the high school exams that can help you move to higher stages of education:

ACT Assessment:

The ACT Assessment is designed to assess high school students' general educational development and their ability to complete college-level work. In these tests four skill areas are covered: English, mathematics, reading, and science reasoning.

AP Exams: AP exams cover three subjects: -

The AP Chemistry exam is divided into 2 sections. The first section consists of multiple-choice questions. Section I is divided into 3 categories consisting of: Calculations, Conceptual, and Factual. Section 2 consists of four parts where following abilities of the students are examined:

writing and predicting chemical equations
an equilibrium problem
mathematical essays
Nonmathematical essays.

The AP US History exam stresses the period between the ratification of the Constitution and the beginning of the First World War. It also emphasizes political and social activities, also places little emphasis on economic and cultural trends.

The AP Biology exam is divided into two sections. Section I contains multiple choice questions. This is divided into three divisions including regular multiple choice questions, matching questions, and questions dealing with experiments for data. Section II contains four essays which you are given 90 minutes to complete.

COOP & HSPT

HSPT Preparation

The HSPT is the most frequently used High school examination. The cognitive skills questions are of IQ tests types and achievement questions resemble the traditional format. The schools may also administer optional test sections like science, mechanical aptitude, and catholic religion but their results may not be included in the standardized scores.

COOP

The Cooperative Admissions Examination is for 8th graders for admission to specific Catholic high schools. The COOP test comprises of ten units. This may test the students IQ level and may also administer his capabilities in solving problems like mathematical problems and conventional reading comprehension, spelling, and vocabulary questions to units on grammatical terms.

GED

This examination is divided in to five parts

Language Arts, Writing
Social Studies
Science
Language Arts, Reading
Mathematics
This test is designed to evaluate the knowledge and skills that a student should have attained after four years in high school. One important thing about the tests is that even though the questions may involve a specific area of study but you dont have to memorize specific facts, details, dates, or even exact definitions. The whole test is similar to comprehension passages where all the information is given to the students and they have to look for the answers.

PSAT/NMSQT

The test consists of five sections,

Two testing verbal reasoning skills
Two testing mathematical skills
One testing writing skills.

SAT

The SAT test is to measure of the critical thinking skills needed for academic success in college. This test assesses how well you analyze and solve problems. The SAT Test is typically taken by high school juniors and seniors.
