Foundations of Reading Exam


Foundations of Reading is one of many national elementary level teacher exams, used for certificating teachers around the USA. This test is a very popular exam used in rating public and private school teachers on a state level. The Foundations of reading test takers have a goal of getting a license as a reading teacher or reading specialist. This test is in line with the Evaluation Systems group and can vary from state to state. This test has one goal, and that is to evaluate the knowledge and education of a teacher, to prove they are in line with state and national teaching standards.

Eligibility for Foundations of Reading Exam


Any teacher can apply for taking this test, all they need to have is a teaching license. Public and private school teachers are eligible, just like entry-level teachers. The Foundation of Reading test is a Kindergarten to grade 5 test, in line with international and USA standards of teaching, even though the sets might vary from state to state.

Syllabus of Foundations of Reading Exam


This Foundations of reading test can be taken any day of the year, except for Sunday and some holidays, and the testing sites can be found all around the USA. The test features subareas with different types of questions, and these are:

Multiple-Choice

Format of Foundations of Reading Exam


Just like the NES tests, the Foundations of Reading exam, is a computer-based test. The questions are mostly multiple-choice with 100 questions and in the end a set of 2 open-response assignments. It is a timed test, and a teacher can take up to four hours and fifteen minutes to fill out the test. The first fifteen minutes are used to sign agreements and listen to a CBT tutorial.

How To Apply For Foundations of Reading Exam


To register, an educator will first have to own an account or profile on the online website of the state's educational certification site. Then, they will have to submit an application, which includes the $139 fee. After that, the teacher can schedule an appointment to take the test, over the website.

Scores of Foundations of Reading Exam


The score of an exam is determined by both multiple choice and open response questions featured in the test. An 80% of the exam score makes the multiple-choice questions and 20% the open response questions. A total score of 229 points is needed for one to pass this exam. The preliminary scores are available almost immediately after taking the test, at the testing site. After that, the official results are published on a yearly schedule.
