Certified Energy Auditor Exam

Certified Energy Auditor is a person who assesses and examinations how energy is being utilized in a particular office. The Energy Auditor identifies energy conservation opportunities and makes recommendations and suggestions as to where energy can be reduced or optimized.

Eligibility for the Certified Energy Auditor Exam

In addition to one of the criteria below, candidates in the United States are required to verify completion of a minimum of 2 hours of Safety Training within the space of the last three years. In addition to this, they are required to have participated in five commercial audits within the last three years. The audits have to be at least two different types of buildings.

The qualifications are as follows:

A 4+-year engineering or architectural degree or Professional Engineer or Registered Architect and 3 years of related experience.
4+-year unrelated experience and 4 years related experience.
4+-years related experience with a 2-year associate degree.
2-year associate degree and 5+ years related experience.
Current status of certified Energy Manager and 3+ years.
NONE, 10 years working experience.

Candidates who do not meet the above-mentioned criteria can still apply for an in-training certification, CEA-IT. The CEA-IT confirmation is substantial for a very long time, which permits the applicant time to meet the full CEA accreditation qualification prerequisites.

Syllabus for the Certified Energy Auditor Exam

All the CEA candidates must attend a CEA preparatory training seminar. The seminar is approved by the training provider. They then submit a CEA application and pass an open book examination. The examination is approved by the exam administrator.

Format of the Certified Energy Auditor Exam

The exam is based on knowledge, which includes the main subject areas and the percentages of each included in the examination. The subjects include: Water conservation, Building Envelope, Domestic Hot Water Systems, Ventilation Systems, Motors, Drivers, and Compressed Air, HVAC, and Heating Systems, Lighting Systems, Data Collection, and Economic Analysis, Utility Analysis and Renewable opportunities, Developing and Audit Strategy and Plan.
