Myth #1:

The entire examination will be concentrated around what is there in the study material or what the instructor taught in the classroom.

Well, this is half truth. The complete picture is that only a few portion of the study material is included in the exam. To become successful you need to figure out what is the most important part of the entire text. How do you do that? Here are a few quick tips
1. Catch the words or phrases that the instructor repeats more often. This may be a hint that what’s there for you in the question paper.
2. See through the words that have been italicized or made bold in your study material. It may come in the exam.
3. Pay attention to what your instructor is writing on the blackboard or on the overhead. This might be included in the exam.

Myth#2:

Cramming can win you good scores.

That’s not the right way. Your brain isn’t any computer that you will keep on feeding information and it will keep on auto-saving it. The ultimate outcome of all this will be that you will get exhausted with the amount of information. It is likely that you even forget a few significant things on the day of your exam.

Myth #3:

One can study well only in pin drop silence.

This might be true for some but not for all. It is a fact that some people are sensitive to visual and sound distractions. At the same time it is also true that some people feel that music and sound increases their efficiency to study. Studies have also shown that listening to classical music can actually improve the student’s learning.

Myth #4:

If I will study for several hours at a stretch I will outshine others in the exam. Busted! The truth is exactly opposite. The concentration span of your mind is 45 minutes. So you can study at a stretch for maximum fifty minutes. If you study any further your mind would revolt. You are likely to jumble up things and in some cases even forget them. So always take short breaks in between your study schedule. This will help your brain to retain things you have learnt.

Myth #5:

All the students learn in the same manner.

Busted!
