The Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) exam is administered in computer based format. It consists of approximately 180 multiple-choice questions of which 160 are scored while 20 are pretest items. The content area tested in the exam is divided into following 6 domains:

Health Statistics and Research Support (11%)
Information Technology and Systems (20%)
Organization and Management (30%)
Privacy, Security, and Confidentiality (13%)
Legal and Regulatory Standards (6%)
The candidates are supposed to complete the examination in four hours.
