OSAT Computer Science Exam


Oklahoma State conducts subject-specific tests that are required and are essential for teaching certification. The exam for the OSAT Computer Science is based on the procedures and framework relevant for the state of Oklahoma. The exam is prepared and constructed from the Oklahoma Full Subject-Matter Competencies and national standards.

Eligibility for OSAT Computer Science Exam


Candidates must fulfill the following conditions to be eligible for appearing in the OSAT Computer Science Exam-

  • Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognized college/university that has an approved program.
  • Must have a major in the field of study- Computer Science.
  • Meet the standards set by the State Board of Education in Oklahoma.

Syllabus of OSAT Computer Science Exam


The syllabus for OSAT Computer Science Exam is broadly covered into 4 subareas:

  • Use of computer in the educational environment- 21%
  • Computer system and concepts- 21%
  • Program design and algorithms- 15%
  • Programming and program testing- 28%

Constructed response questions are based on the concept of Program design and algorithms that carry a weightage of 15%.

Format of OSAT Computer Science Exam


OSAT exam for computer science has been prepared in the following format-

  • OSAT for Computer Science covers 80 selected-response questions or MCQ and 1 constructed-response question.
  • Weightage for MCQs is 85% and for constructed responses 15%.
  • It is a computer-based test and an assignment is also included where candidates are required to handwrite and scan the responses.
  • The allotted time for candidates to complete the exam is 4 hours and 15 minutes.

How to apply for the OSAT Computer Science Exam?


Candidates can apply for the exam online. To apply, appointments are available round the year, Monday through Saturday. A fee of $135 applies to every teacher taking the test. $80 is the base fee, $25 is the CBT fee, and $30 registration processing fee (paid once per program year).

The accompanying materials are denied at the test site:

  • Smoking and the utilization of all tobacco items
  • Guests, including family members, kids, and companions
  • Weapons of any sort

Scores for OSAT Computer Science Exam


A passing score of 240 is required for the candidate to qualify for the OSAT Computer Science Exam. The test contains randomly chosen questions as selected by the educator and these questions are thoroughly validated by a separate panel of Oklahoma educators. The scores candidates receive are utilized by the Oklahoma Commission for teacher preparation and national evaluation systems as a standard of qualification.
