The HESI A2 test is an entrance examination taken to get admission in an accredited nursing program. The test may be taken three times through the academic program, usually in junior year. It is may also be taken as an exit examination at the end of the training in preparation for taking the NCLEX certification examination.
Format of The Health Education Systems, Inc. Admission Assessment HESI A2 Exam
The HESI A2 exam consists of the following five sections:
1. Mathematics:
This section consists of 50 multiple choice items. The topics included in the mathematics section are basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, decimals, ratio and proportion, household measures, and general math facts. Time recommended to complete the section is approximately 50 minutes. Minimum score of 75% is required.
2. English Language Composite:
The section of English Language Composite includes the following sub-sections:
Reading Comprehension: This section consists of 47 multiple choice items.Time Recommended to complete this section is 60 minutes.
Vocabulary and General Knowledge: This section consists of 50 multiple choice items.Time Recommended to complete this section is 50 minutes.
Grammar: This section consists of 47 multiple choice items.Time Recommended to complete this section is 50 minutes. A minimum composite score of 75% is required.
3. Learning Styles:
This section consists of 14 multiple choice items that assess preferred learning styles. Time recommended to complete the section is 15 minutes.
4. Personality Style:
This section consists of 25 multiple choice items. Based on the result of the test the students get a printout of study tips that are in accordance with their personality. Time recommended to complete this test is 25 minutes.
5. Critical Thinking:
This section consists of 30 multiple choice items.Scores range from 0-1000. The higher the score, the better the ability to think critically. Time recommended to complete the section is 30 minutes.
